Maya Tutorial - The Toaster...

I had no problems meodelling and texturing the toaster, and i am quite happy with the end product. The table cloth could have had more squares on though.

Maya Tutorial - The Dice...

I was able to model the dice fine, using the tutorial, but i was unable to add the texture because when i mapped it onto the dice, the dots were in the wrong place. I was unable to solve this problem, but at a later date, may have to redo the dice altogether.

Fourth Self-Portrait Idea

This idea also expresses the idea of reaching out and trying to be noticed, as we see two people reaching out to each other. but, neither of them are able to cross over the boundary that we can see. i think this idea would look really effective if the two people were created using dark tones (ie. black and white or greyscale) and the splashes were bright colours. i believe this would emphasise on a depressing emotion. i also feel this would be quite a simple, but effective idea. i would relate this idea to the Two Fridas portrait as its two seperate identities, trying to connect with each other.

Third Self-Portrait Idea

This image is meant to express the idea of reaching out to people and trying to be noticed. i particularly like the haunting nature of the image as we don't see the full facial featureson the face and it appears to be moaning. i also like the way the hands are reaching out, it really adds to the effectiveness of the image. the colours will be dark and a lot of the work will be done in Photoshop, using compositing techniques. i also feel theiea of the face riginated from Jose Luis Neto's 22474 portait, as it has a similar haunting nature.

Second Self-Portrait Idea

This idea is very similar to the work of Robert Mapplethorpe. i like the way it only uses two elements to the portrait, the hand and the head, in oppose to showing the whole body. i feel this makes it more expressive and meaningful, drawing your focus to the most important parts f the portrait. i feel it represents the dark and light sides to me. i also like the idea of the heart in my hand, representing the idea that my life is in my hands. i believe making this image black and white will absorb the life from the portrait and make it more effective.

First Self-Portrait Idea

This idea is meant to represent my creative side and show how imaginative i am. i expess this through my love for the superhero genre (Marvel/DC Comics etc.) and my fascination for street art. these ideas will be portrayed throught the use of graffiti on the wall, resembling marvl charcters and the portrayal of my superpowers. i particularly like the idea of combining the imagination and the real world because it represents my life well. i also represent the idea of myself destroying evil, giving a deep meaning through my morals. i like this idea because it's a modern outlook on self-portraits, something i would associate with myself, in oppose to a more traditional style.

Essay Question

Well I had been thinking about the assignment, but it was only in the back of my mind, as i've been fcusing more of my time on the actual portrait. it would have been better if i spread my time equally, but i found that the lecture and seminar were great for getting me on the right tracks. i was realy surprised with how much i have actualy learned already. i found that although i hadn't properly thoght about the essay, i had a good knowledge of how i would go about the topic of portraiture in digital culture. i wanted to focus my attention on how celebrities are portrayed, but after the seminar, i have found tht many of the questions were related. i found the main link, apart from the topic of portraiture, was identity and i figured that even if the assignment didn't mention that it should relate to identity, that soehow they all would. this has helped me ralise that portiture is just th representation of ones identity in an artform. i know that my topic will be on how celebrities are presented in portraits, but i feel i will need to do more researh toralise the speific question i will answer.
